The Kimberley area of Western Australia is sparsely populated. Large areas of wildness are characterised by rocky peaks, stunning gorges, semi-arid savannah, and a mostly isolated coastline. The partly unpaved Gibb River Road stretches 660 kilometres across the heart of the country, going through Windjana Gorge National Park, which has towering limestone cliffs and pools where freshwater crocodiles congregate.
